Speaking Out

Admitting that you were molested as a child is the most important step in the journey to heal. Inside our minds, we know what happened to us but it is only through speaking or writing the words....I was raped as a child or I was sexually abused as a child...that the crime and it's after effects become terrifyingly real.

And it doesn't just become real to others around us, it finally sinks into our own hearts that yes, we were abused. And yes, we need help to heal.

Speaking out also breaks down the walls of shame and secrecy that have kept us prisoners in our own pain, too. Those walls that were built by our abuser(s) in childhood, we keep up our of fear of discovery.

For how many of us feel that once the darkness we carry inside is known, those we love will turn away in disgust? How many turn away from ourselves? And how many will finally set themselves free?

The Beauty of Scars

My website http://beautyofscars.googlepages.com/home,
I've been told took courage to create and that puzzled me at first. You see, it's a safe place for sexual abuse survivors to learn, to find others, to heal and to vent. A place I've been dreaming of creating for years now because I too was once a victim.

I was raped, for the first time at five, and then for years afterward until I was at least twelve. Mixed with sexual abuse were also physical and emotional trauma. So you see, it took years to heal and come to a point where I can now share and try to help others by speaking out.

Because terror had dominated my life for so long, I never realized it would take courage to do this...until now.
